The prairie lands of Illinois greeted early settlers and immigrants as they journeyed west. Many liked what they saw, and chose to live here.
Tall grasses bowed in unison responding to the Prairie Winds.
Deep, fibrous roots continued to enrich the fertile soil, attracting thrifty people with deep spiritual convictions.
Today, of course, most of the prairie lands have given way to coveted farm ground.
Likewise, the pioneers have given way to generations of newcomers, many of whom have anchored upon the foundations of faith enriched by their predecessors.
A mission to provide for the needy was conceived by members of several area Lutheran churches in the early 70s.
The first resident entered Prairieview Lutheran Home at Danforth on February 19, 1974.
Faith of our fathers, living still,
In spite of dungeon, fire, and sword;
Oh, how our hearts beat high with joy,
Whene'er we hear that joyous word;
The mission continued with the construction of Luther Place, a community for independent seniors, in 1985.
In 1990, at the request of the donor, well planned duplexes for senior citizens were built in Buckley.
Faith of our fathers, holy faith
We will be true, to thee till death.
Much like prairie grasses bending in accord with the wind, corporate leaders again felt the leading of God to further the mission.
The vision this time was a special place for a special group of people — those afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease and severe dementia.
The early 90s were filled with research, study, and planning.
Undeterred by obstacles, the administration pressed on.
And Faith Place was born.
In 1998, Faith Place opened its arms to welcome the first residents.
Nearer, still nearer, close to thy heart,
Draw me, O Saviour, so precious thou art;
Hold me, O hold me, close to thy breast,
Shelter me safe in that haven of rest;
Shelter me safe in that haven of rest.
Faith Place may well be the best-kept secret in Iroquois County. Everything about Faith Place is designed to help our loved ones reestablish connections which so easily evade them.

Thru endless ages ever shall be,
Nearer, my Saviour, still nearer to Thee,
Nearer, my Saviour, still nearer to Thee.
Like a prairie breeze, the Breath of God
distills within this place,
Dispensing peace, like the morning dew,
upon the age-worn face.
The reaching hand, the halting step,
The weary, moistened eyes,
The caring touch, the warm embrace —
'angels in disguise.'
I come to the garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses,
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses;
And He walks with me and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
When uncertainty sets in,
give your loved ones the best you can —
Faith Place
"God's little secret on the Prairie"
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
