Catherine and Alex fell in love when she began writing him as he fought in Germany during World War II. He lived through the beach landing at D-Day and fought on through Europe. Alex carried a picture of Catherine in his helmet. The picture on a shelf outside her room at Faith Place showed a young Catherine and Alex together after the war. They married and had 3 children.
At 98, Catherine said “not worrying too much" helped her to live a long life. She loved living at Faith Place because she was “given choices and treated with respect.”
